Kids Conquering Sickle Cell Disease embrace the smiles, heroism, optimistic nature and fun loving character of kids to continuously impact others through their life challenges. We acknowledge that living with a life threatening blood disease is not easy. We strive to support, empower, and educated kids and families to adopt healthy habits to enhance enjoyable healthier life styles.
The Center for Disease Control(CDC) reports that within the United States approximately 100,000 individuals in the United States have sickle cell disease and 3 million have sickle cell trait. The U.S. has an estimated population of over 270 million with about 1,000 babies are born with sickle cell disease each year.
Kids Conquering Sickle Cell Disease will come together with public health officials, healthcare providers, civil society and people with sickle cell disease, and their families, to learn from each other and to continue to work together to find solutions to the many challenges posed by sickle cell disease. We educate children, adults & families about the importance of managing this disease and adapting healthy habits to decrease the mortality rate and live healthier fulfilled lives. We are committed to increase testing and educate the community about learning their sickle cell gene status (hemoglobin S — the defective form of hemoglobin) and health concerns associated to being a carrier of the sickle cell gene. Together we can Conquer Sickle Cell Disease!
